Passing of Post 58 member Leonrd Andreasik

On Sunday March 8th one of our Post 58 Veteran Members passed away. Leonard Andreasik joined Post 58 in 1980 and helped and participated at the functions and Brecksville VA Hospital according to some of our older veterans. His daughter called me this morning after getting our number from the phone book. She would appreciate if Post 58 members performed a small service at the funeral home as they did for her uncle who passed 25 years ago.
Post members assemble at 6;45pm at Tomon & Sons Funeral Home to perform the
" FINAL SALUTE" him. A poppy was presented to the deceased and to his daughter while taps were played.

Fellow veteran and member of Post 58, Ed Ostry, broadcasts every Saturday at 10:00 on WELW 1300 am. Be sure to tune in.

He also broadcasts “Polka, Polka,Polka”, which is taped at Sneaky Pete’s, Eastlake, Ohio Sundays 4-8 pm. (440 510 0087)

Phil Srnick Productions, Time Warner Cable and WELW 1330 AM Radio produce a Cleveland based 30-minute television program called Polka, Polka, Polka. The show airs to 1.4 MM households in major Northeast Ohio markets including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Ashtabula and Sandusky on Time Warner cable, channels 15, 23, 24 twice a week. The show airs in premier dayparts appropriate for the target audience: Saturdays at 2:00 PM and Sundays at 7:30 PM.

The show has been airing since 2006 and has become increasingly popular. The show fills a unique niche as the Northeast Ohio area still maintains a strong base of VERY LOYAL polka enthusiasts as it is home Americaâ€™s Polka King, Frank Yankovich and the Polka Hall of Fame. Over a quarter million people view Polka Polka Polka each week.

The show features popular local and out-of-town polka bands such as Grammy winner and Canadaâ€™s Polka King, Walter Ostanek along with other well-known polka celebrities. Along with our host, Ed Ostry, the show is recorded at popular Cleveland area polka spot in Eastlake, Ohio. Approximately 200 people attend and participate in the showâ€™s taping (dance on camera and are interviewed). The audience participation creates the unique flavor of the show and helps sustain the loyal viewing audience.

Research has shown that the popularity of Polka, Polka, Polka not only stems from the lively music, but from the nostalgic feelings the show evokes. The show helps the audience recall the good old days of large Saturday night polka dances with friends where hundreds would routinely attend, the area nightclubs that featured polka music four to five nights a week and the ethnic neighborhoods of yesteryear where families shared and knew every one on the block.

First I want to thank you for joining our veterans organization and becoming part of the largest post in the PLAV. You may not be aware of it but the PLAV has 94 posts nationwide and ours and soon to be yours, Tremont's Roosevelt Post 58, is the largest in membership.

Our basic mission is to help veterans and their families that are hospitalized here in Brecksvlle and Wade Park V.A. Hospitals. We do this with the monies we raise through our Canteen (open 7 days a week for your enjoyment) and through various functions that we host throughout the year.

We received your application from Tony, your sponsor. We are sure he made a good choice. Included with this letter is a self-addressed envelope. Please use it to mail in your $20.00 annual dues for 2009. Your membership card, which you will need to enter the Clubhouse, will be mailed to you. Roosevelt Post #58 was founded in 1945 by American veterans of Polish descent who were returning from World War II back to the steel mill jobs they left here in the Southside (Tremont).

Today, Post 58, located at 2442 Professor Avenue, continues to grow as historic Tremont grows. We are the largest PLAV –USA post among 90 others nationwide. Chartered by Congress in 1987, the ranks have opened up to all nationalities, not just those of Polish heritage. The majority of our veterans, Ladies Auxiliary and Social Members (non-veteran) are of various European heritages. Ukrainian, Slovak, Irish, German, Italian and, of course, Poles make up the melting pot of Roosevelt Post 58.

The ground floor of Post 58 contains a full service bar. Our 1950s era juke box has the best tunes in Cleveland. Our regulation pool table is still only fifty cents. Our daytime price for bottled Bud Lite is only $1.25, while it increases to a whopping $1.50 during the evening. Can you find it any better anywhere in town?

Our 2^nd floor consists of a Meeting Room, kitchen, historic military pictures and Post 58 history.

The basement level contains a display and memorial to all our veterans who never returned home from the wars and conflicts of the United States.

We need your participation and support to enable us to continue to find ways to help veterans and their families.

Why was Post 58 named in honor of F.D.R.???

F.D.R. was the 32^nd President of the United States and served longer than any other president of the United States. He held office from 1933 until his death in 1945 at the beginning of his forth term. During his presidency he led the United States through two great crises; the Depression of the 1930’s and World War II.

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the nations only president to declare a war and not live to see the outcome that the United States won.
